HAWKS LOOK TO EXTEND STREAK TO TEN ON FRIDAY AT HOME

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks men's volleyball team will look to continue their fine play, as they host the Mohawk Mountaineers from Hamilton on Friday night at the Humber Athletic Centre.

LAST TIME OUT

Even though the Hawks won in straight sets (28-26, 25-22, 27-25) over the Conestoga Condors, they allowed the Condors to battle back and force extra points in two sets. In those two sets, Humber held at least a 24-22 lead. 2017 OCAA scoring champion Clayton Blanchette is finding his stride and led the Hawks on the night in scoring.

LAST TIME OUT VS MOHAWK

Humber dominated the first set, winning in an easy manner by a score of 25-14. As they have done much to often this season, the Hawks relaxed and gave the second away quickly, losing 25-18. Although they fell behind in the next two sets, they rallied in both to win 25-20 and 25-21 to take the road match. Kamyn Wilkins and Clayton Blanchette led the team with identical 15-point marks. Of note, Dylan Devesceri made his debut with Humber, scoring nine points on the night

SCOUTING MOHAWK

  • Mohawk has played the Hawks as tough as any team the OCAA has in their history. The Hawks hold a 32-19 lead in regular season wins, and are 15-9 over the visiting Mountaineers
  • The Mountaineers statistical team ranking has been middle of the road at best. They barely break into the top ten of a couple categories, and drop to the bottom third in the league on average
  • Mitch McFadden has been a human highlight reel on Mohawk broadcasts, leading the way with an impressive offensive mark of 5.0 points per set average. He currently leads the entire OCAA.
  • Four other Mountaineers check in with averages above the 2.0 pps mark
  • Two setters have shared the duties. Alex Tripp leads with 161 assists, while Andrew Kong cjecks in with 116

HAWK NOTES

  • The Hawks have won nine straight, which is their best run since a 10-0 stretch in the 2013-14 season
  • Humber ranks in the top third of almost every team statistical category, and check highly in aces and assists
  • Dylan Devecseri continues to lead the Hawks in scoring at 3.7 points per set, but Kamyn Wilkins (3.3 pps) and Clayton Blanchette (3.2 pps) have been moving up steadily
  • Rady Kim (237 assists) and Jake Gomes (135 assists) are eerily close in in assists per set average at 5.39 and 5.19, respectively

HISTORY WATCH

  • Head coach Wayne Wilkins is not going away, as with nine straight wins, is staying close to brother Chris's all-time Hawk coaches win record with 325 victories
  • Clayton Blanchette has moved up in a number of Humber all-time records, and now sits third in kills (567), and fourth in service aces (70) and fourth in points (679). Based on his averages, he should advance to fourth, possibly third in points, but is a stretch to eclipse anyone else in aces and kills
