MYRIE SIGNS WITH HUMBER VOLLEYBALL

ETOBICOKE, Ont -- The 2017 recruiting class for Humber volleyball continues to grow stronger after head coach Wayne Wilkins announced the signing of Dean Myrie for the upcoming OCAA season.

The six-foot-two outside hitter from Toronto joins the Hawks from the Pakmen Black Volleyball system.

"Dean brings strong athletic ability, a great passion for the game along with a ton of effort," said Coach Wilkins, who is entering his 23rd season at the helm for Humber.  "We're pleased to have Dean join the squad and can't wait to see him bring his fiery personality to the court and watch him produce for the navy and gold."

Aside from playing volleyball for seven years, Myrie played rep soccer and was part of the team that won the 2014 Ontario Cup championship.

"To me, Humber is the best place to play volleyball while simultaneously learning a skilled trade," said Myrie when asked why he chose Humber College. "Eventually I wish to start my own business, and I believe this path will set me up to succeed."

When training camp begins, Myrie will see some familiar faces on the court with him.

"Dean and Alex [Bowden] were teammates on the same Pakmen 18U team and were a solid 1-2 punch for the squad," added Coach Wilkins. "We're excited to watch them carry over that chemistry at the OCAA level."

The outside hitter will enroll in Humber's general arts and science program beginning in September 2017.

Myrie, along with incoming recruits Jackson Brear, Alex Bowden, David Fountain, and Jake Gomes, will join the rest of the Humber Hawks volleyball team on the first day of tryouts on September 5 at the North Campus Gym.
