HAWKS LOOK TO ROAD TO REGAIN WINNING FORMULA

HAWKS LOOK TO ROAD TO REGAIN WINNING FORMULA

ANCASTER, ON: The Humber Hawks men's volleyball team (5-3, 3rd  West) will look to respond in a positive manner to their current three game losing skid on Wednesday night in Ancaster, as they will face the tough Redeemer Royals (5-3, 3rd  West).

Last Time Out

Over the past ten meetings, dating back five years, the Hawks hold a slim 6-4 lead over the Royals. The last two seasons have had the teams split at 2-2, with both teams grabbing a win on the other team's home court.

Hawk Notes

  • The Hawks players and coaching staff are aware of two huge factors when visiting the Royals. First is the low ceiling, which more often than not will result in ending a rally. The second is the rabid and boisterous Redeemer home crowd. Their impact on a game is well chronicled throughout the league.
  • Humber's second year standout Clayton Blanchette has come back to the pack with regards to his offensive numbers, but he still leads the league with a mark of 5.4 points per set. He sits at number one in the league in kills (136) and kills per set average (4.69)
  • Alex Gibbs has had a solid start to the season, with his mark of 3.6 pps, good enough for second on the team and 18th in the league
  • The team as a whole sees its statistics in the middle of the pack across most of the board
  • Humber introduced 6'7" men's baseball pitcher Andrew Blakey  to the line-up, and he has paid immediate dividends to the squad with his blocking and ball striking skills

Scouting Redeemer

  • After a tight 3-2 loss to start the season was followed by a 3-0 whitewash at Conestoga, the Royals ripped off five straight wins before having that streak snapped by Fanshawe
  • As a team the statistics seem to indicate a team that blocks well (9th overall) and serves even better (48 aces – 5th, 1.71 aces per set – 3rd)
  • Mitchell Harris leads the team in offence at 3.2 pps. He is followed closely behind by Linden Bontkes and his mark of 3.0 pps. Three other Royals have averaged well above the 2.0 plateau.
  • Despite their 5-3 record, the Royals have moved up in the OCAA rankings and currently occupy the 4th spot

Hawks History Watch

  • If the season ended tomorrow, Clayton Blanchette's current mark of 5.4 pps would give him the Hawks 7th best mark for a single season
  • At his current pace, Blanchette could break into the Hawks top ten of all-time scoring by season's end
  • With every win, head coach Wayne Wilkins builds on his all-time lead in wins as a violleyball coach at Humber (men or women) – currently at 308
