No. 1 Men's Soccer Edges Conestoga, 4-3

KITCHENER – Top-ranked Humber men's soccer (3-0, 1st West) escaped Conestoga (2-1, 3rd West) with a narrow road win Saturday afternoon, 4-3.

Phenom Leaford Allen opened the scoring for the Hawks, recording his ninth tally of the season, to give the Hawks an early 1-0 lead.

The Condors responded, however, becoming the first team to score on the Hawks this season.

As the half progressed, freshman Elijah Larin recorded his first career OCAA goal.

All-star Federico Leal recorded his third tally in two matches, converting a penalty kick as Humber went into the break leading, 3-1.

Larin, making the first start of his career, made the most of his opportunity and opened the second half with his second goal of the match – which ultimately became the game-winner.

During a substitution, Conestoga caught the Hawks shorthanded and scored its second goal of the match, cutting Humber's lead in half.

As the match neared the 90th-minute mark, the Condors converted a penalty kick to bring the deficit to one, but it was too little too late and Humber picked up its ninth consecutive victory.

Game Notes:

  • Leaford Allen has scored more goals than 16 OCAA teams to begin the season.
  • Keeper Nick Frenati picked up his 11th career win.
  • Humber picks up its tenth straight win over Conestoga and improves to 27-1-3 all-time against the Condors.
  • Head coach Michael Aquino is one-win shy of 80 career victories.
