No. 1 Men's Soccer Cruises Past No. 5 Fanshawe, 5-0

VAUGHAN – Top-ranked Humber men's soccer (2-0, 1st West) rolled to an impressive win over No. 5 Fanshawe (1-1, 5th OCAA) Wednesday at the Ontario Soccer Centre.

Fresh off a 6-0 win to begin the season, Humber's fast-paced offence was on display in its 2019 home opener. In the sixth minute, a streaking Andres Sanchez made a brilliant curling pass into the box that found the boot of Leaford Allen who leapt into the air for the easy tap-in to beat the Fanshawe keeper.

Less than six minutes later, freshman Max Ferrari was taken down outside the box and Humber was awarded a free-kick. All-star Federico Leal delivered a perfect strike that curled by the wall of defenders into the top corner of the net to extend Humber's lead to two.

Halfway through the opening frame, Humber's attack continued to be too much for the Falcons. From midfield, senior Cody Green delivered a perfect through ball that beat two defenders and was corralled by Allen, who slid his second goal of the match to the back of the net.

As the half drew to a close, a poor tackle by a Falcons defender on Mercyhurst transfer Uday Arora gave Federico Leal another free-kick from outside the 18-yard box. Leal, making free kicks look easy, struck another curling ball above the wall of defenders, sneaking the ball under the crossbar and by the sprawling Fanshawe keeper, Ryan Miners. The Hawks went into the break leading, 4-0.

Shortly after the second-half began, some miscommunication by the Fanshawe defenders allowed a racing Allen to run by two defenders and bury his third goal of the match.

In the 51st minute, Aziah Reid was issued a straight red card and the match started to get chippy. Fanshawe began to pressure Humber's defence but was unable to beat keeper Nick Frenati who made two big saves to preserve the clean sheet.

A lightning storm cut the match short in the 72nd minute, giving Humber its second win to begin the season.
