No. 4 MEN'S SOCCER WIN DIVISION WITH 1-1 DRAW AT SHERIDAN

OAKVILLE, Ont – No. 4 Humber men's soccer (8-1-1, 1st Central) clinched its sixth consecutive division title Wednesday afternoon after playing to a 1-1 draw at No. 11 Sheridan (5-0-5, 3rd Central).  The Hawks will now play in their ninth consecutive postseason tournament.

Sitting atop the division, Humber went to Sheridan needing a win or draw to get an automatic bid into the championship tournament. The Bruins began the match playing with energy, needing a victory to secure the division. In the 24th minute, Manny Morgado drilled a deep shot past a diving Nick Frenati to give Sheridan the early lead.

Playing the first half against the wind, Humber struggled to get the ball out of its own end, managing to trail by only one at the break.

Humber opened the second half pressing offensively, finding numerous scoring opportunities but were unable to beat Sheridan goalie Chester Ashby.

Late match substitutions of Stavros Badunas and Ryan Whittingham seemed to spark the Hawks as the match entered the final stretch.

Whittingham – playing in his first OCAA match – drew a crucial foul in the 70th minute, just outside the 18-yard box. Federico Leal kicked a knuckling shot on net that the Bruin keeper could not control, and freshman Aziah Reid was able to bury the rebound for his second goal of the season, tying the match.

Nick Frenati played all 90 minutes for Humber, making two saves to improve to 3-1-2 on the season.
