HAWKS WIN CHIPPY GAME 2-0 OVER GBC TO REMAIN UNDEFEATED

VAUGHAN, ON: The Humber Hawks saw their record improve to 8-0-0 on the season by way of a 2-0 win at home over the second place George Brown Huskies (5-2-1). With the win, Humber clinched the Central Division title once again.

The game, played on a miserable cold and damp day, was marred by numerous fouls and cards. Two of the cards were red, resulting in the expulsion of a player from each team. Overall, it was the Hawks with 4 yellows and a red, while the Huskies had one of each.

Humber carried the play early, and this fine play resulted in a goal by Tomasz Balicki at the 11:53 mark. Although the play evened a little, neither team registered a solid scoring chance for most of the first frame.

Just prior to the whistle to indicate the end of the first half, it was the Hawks who struck in injury time. Hawk sniper Luca Baldassarre delivered his team leading eighth goal of the season.

The second half mimicked much of the first, with both teams holding possession for similar amounts of time without legitimate scoring chances. As the clock wound down, the two teams escalated their chippy play and accompanied it with verbal outbursts. As mentioned above, two red cards were handed out for two separate incidents.

After the final whistle, the arguing continued, but cooler heads prevailed and the teams left the pitch.

The statistics at game's end favoured the Hawks.

SHOTS: Humber 19, George Brown 7
CORNERS: Humber 8, George Brown 2
SAVES: Humber 4, George Brown 7
FOULS: Humber 9, George Brown 13

Humber will now host the Cambrian Golden Shield on Sunday afternoon at the OSA Soccer Centre in Vaughan. Kick-off is set for 2:00 pm.
