TORONTO, Ont -- Ray Chateau is the most nationally decorated coach from an Ontario institution in history. He has been the head coach of teams that have won 10 men's and three women's CCAA national golf gold medals, beginning in 2001. With three more national podium finishes, it equals 16 CCAA medals that have been placed around his neck.
The national championships are impressive, but there are three more areas that really magnify his impact on the provincial and national golf scene. First, his men's teams have won three RCGA university/college national titles, and have placed on the podium four additional times. This competition involves the best post-secondary golf programs in the country.
Second, Ray has represented Canada as the head coach at the FISU World University Games on six occasions. These events have taken Ray and a number of his Humber golfers all across the world. His Team Canada squads finished fourth in 2006 and fifth in 2010.
Third, Ray was selected as the recipient of the CCAA Coaching Excellence Award in 2012. He was the first non-basketball or volleyball winner of the award, and the first from Ontario since legendary Humber basketball coach Mike Katz won the inaugural award back in 2001.
His players were solid in the classroom, and have gone on to be very active in the world of golf, be it on the professional circuit, or by becoming teaching professionals.
