No. 10 Men's Basketball Books Spot in OCAA Final Eight

ETOBICOKE -- In OCAA crossover playoff action on Saturday night at the Humber Athletic Centre in Etobicoke, the Humber Hawks defeated the St. Lawrence Vikings by a score of 119-71, and have now advanced to the 2020 OCAA Men's Basketball Championship at Lambton College next week in Sarnia.

Humber placed five players in double figures, led by Jaylan Morgan 21-point, 10 rebound double-double. Fowzi Mohamoud continued his torrid three-point shooting, finishing six-for-10 from beyond the arc to complete the night with 18 points. DeQuon Cascart, Alex Petronis and Khalid Ismail hit for 13, 11 and 10 points, respectfully.

The game mirrored the earlier Hawks women's victory over the St. Lawrence Vikings in many ways. Both Vikings teams came into the game as the seventh-place team in the East, while the Hawks were the West Division Champions. And, as with the women's tilt, the opening quarter was just as tight, with Humber holding just a single point lead after the first ten minutes at 28-27.

Although they did create a number of open looks, the Hawks were unable to get many balls to drop. The visiting Vikings were aggressive, scoring from inside and beyond the arc.

The hometown Hawks rolled in the second, outscoring the St. Lawrence squad 29-14. Humber's Jaylan Morgan seemed to take over the game on his own, often using his patented spin move to create space for easy baskets.

The second half was all Humber, as the squad scored at will on what quickly became a very tired Vikings squad.

Dwayne Lambert-Cadore recorded nine points in the fourth quarter as the Hawks booked their ticket to the OCAA Championship tournament for the 12th straight year.

Humber Highlights

  • The Hawks have scored 100-plus points in three straight games and improve to 94-0 all-time when hitting the century mark in regulation.
  • Jaylan Morgan recorded his seventh career double-double for Humber.
