Men’s Basketball Reach Century Mark in Win Over Lambton, 102-87

ETOBICOKE — Humber men's basketball defeated the visiting Lambton Lions (5-5, 5th West), 102-87, in the opening game of its weekend doubleheader Saturday afternoon at the North Campus Gym.

Jaylan Morgan led the way for the Hawks, as he picked up his second double-double of the year finishing with 21 points, 11 assists, nine rebounds and a steal. Morgan took over in the final quarter picking up six points, four rebounds, three assists, and one steal in the fourth alone.

Humber's defence was the catalyst in the opening quarter, as they forced Lambton into tough shots (five-of-17, 29.4 percent) and six turnovers leading to easier looks in transition. It was by far their best quarter of the game as they opened the game on an 11-0 run, entering the first break up 21-11.

It was the polar opposite in the next quarter as Humber allowed the Lions to put up 31 points in the second on 13-of-23 (56.5 percent) shooting. A Kahlid Ismail buzzer-beating three would be the only reason the Hawks entered the break with the lead the score now 43-42.

The Humber offence caught fire again in the third frame as they put up a game-high 33 in the quarter, shooting 12-for-19 (63.2 percent). Kevin Otoo did most of the damage in the quarter, scoring ten of his 15 points in the third as Humber went into the fourth up eight.

Lambton would get the game to within one point midway through the fourth before a 12-0 Humber run would put the game out of reach. DeQuan Cascart helped spark the Hawks with his energy on both ends, while also scoring seven of his 23 points in the fourth.

Ismail finished with 20 points, while Fowzi Mohamoud scored 13 points to round out the double-digit scorers for Humber. Otoo picked up his second straight double-double of the season on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Kardon Edwards and Jason Watts combined to score 52 points for the Lions in the losing effort.
