Men’s Basketball Drops Tight Battle with No. 2 Sheridan, 85-82

BRAMPTON – Humber men's basketball fell on the road to Sheridan, 85-82, Tuesday evening at the Davis Campus Gym, falling to 0-2 to begin the 2019-20 season.

Point guard Fowzi Mohamoud led the Hawks in scoring for the second straight game with 21 points, finishing eight-for-20 from the floor. Khalid Ismail dropped a career-high 18 points, while senior DeQuon Cascart and Jaylan Morgan also finished in double-digits, recording 14 and 11 points each.

Humber finished the first quarter with a one-point lead then ran into trouble in the second frame against the Sheridan press defence. The Hawks were unable to generate clean looks and only managed to score eight points on three-of-14 shooting and went into the break trailing by 13 points.

Coach Downey's halftime adjustments sparked the Humber offence, outscoring the Bruins, 32-18, in the third quarter. Ismail scored 10 points in the frame as the Hawks finished 11-for-21 from the floor.

Sheridan used a 10-2 run with five minutes left in regulation to jump back out in front, but Fowzi Mohamoud responded with two quick triples to keep the game close. With two seconds left on the clock, an inbound pass to Jaylan Morgan left the senior with a contested fadeaway three-pointer to tie the game. Morgan's deep triple hit the back rim and bounced out as the Bruins escaped with the victory.
