No. 5 HAWKS ROLL BENCH ON WAY TO 83-68 CROSSOVER PLAYOFF WIN OVER VIKINGS

ETOBICOKE, ON: The fifth ranked Humber Hawks men's basketball team have punched their ticket to the 2019 OCAA Provincial Championship next week at Georgian College in Barrie by way of an 83-68 home crossover playoff win over Kingston's St. Lawrence Vikings.

Humber head coach Samson Downey rolled his entire bench throughout the game, providing valuable minutes to players he may need to access as the playoffs loom, and also giving his starters a nice balance of rest and touches. In total, nine of the eleven Hawks dressed scored on the night, led by Jaylan Morgan and his 15 point effort. He was supported by four other Hawks who hit for double figures.

The visiting Vikings burst out of the gate and extended their lead at the five minute mark of the first period. The Hawks, scorers of only two points over the first four minutes, awoke and took a 17-13 lead at the end of one.

You don't need to go any further with the game story beyond the second quarter. Humber outscored St. Lawrence 26-8 in the stanza to put the game away before the halftime buzzer sounded. For the record though, St. Lawrence took the third period by a five point margin, and the fourth by two points.

Humber will play the host Georgian Grizzlies to open the Final event next Thursday, February 28. Georgian finished sixth in the East Division, checking in with a 9-11 record. The tip is set for 8:00 p.m., at the Georgian College Athletic Centre.
