ANCASTER, Ont -- A day after officially winning the OCAA West Division title, No. 2 Humber men's basketball lost its first game of the season against the sharpshooting Redeemer Royals Saturday afternoon (11-7, 5th West), 106-74.

Jaylan Morgan led the team in scoring, finishing with 14 points and five rebounds. Jordon Francis added 12 points, while DeQuon Cascart rounded out Humber's double-digit scorers with 11 points of his own.

Redeemer surprised everyone by not only giving Humber its first loss but doing so in a big way. Foster Brown led all scorers with 19 points and 10 assists, while Spencer Kerssies added 17 points and 14 rebounds.

Humber (17-1, 1st West) came out with a lot of energy in the tough Redeemer gym. Despite the crowd getting into it early, Humber jumped out to a 19-7 run, led by Jaylan Morgan. The Royals quickly answered and went on a run of their own. After a buzzer beater to end the first quarter, Foster Brown helped the Royals outscore the Hawks 24-17 in the second frame. For the second straight game, the Hawks had their back against the wall, trailing at the half, 49-41.

Unfortunately for Humber, Redeemer quickly put the game away, beginning the second half with the same aggressiveness. Their ability to get to the rim and hit their shots helped them get a double digit lead with 5:00 remaining the third quarter. Brown continued to produce as Redeemer took a 17-point lead with 1:30 left in the third quarter. A buzzer beater from Brown to end the third quarter gave the Royals a 77-58 lead heading to the fourth quarter.

The story was the same in the fourth quarter as Redeemer continued to hit their shots and make stops.

Not much went right for the Hawks in this one. The team shot 35 per cent from the field (24-of-68), had a season-low 11 assists and finished with 19 turnovers.
