CASCART, MORGAN LEAD No. 3 MEN'S BASKETBALL OVER REDEEMER

ETOBICOKE, Ont -- No. 3 Humber men's basketball (8-0, 1st West) continued their torrid run through the OCAA, beating the visiting Redeemer Royals (6-3, 4th West) Wednesday evening, 92-87.

Coming off a career-high 29 points on Nov. 21, DeQuon Cascart picked up right where he left off, leading his team with 21 points and earning the player of the game. Cascart and the Hawks delivered an entertaining duel against their division rival - who they knocked off last year to advance to the OCAA championship game.

Looking for redemption, the Royals came out on fire, starting the game on a 12-5 run. DeQuon Cascart and Fowzi Mohamoud quickly responded with two three-pointers to trim the Royals lead to one. Midway through the first, the momentum began to shift on Humber's side and with just over five minutes remaining in the first, the Hawks went on a 13-0 run of their own. The fast-paced first quarter ended with a 30-20 lead for Humber.

Jaylan Morgan, who is currently top-10 in field goal percentage, continued his efficient shooting against the Royals. He led the way in scoring in the first half and hit a buzzer beater to end the second quarter, giving the Hawks a 49-38 lead going into halftime. Morgan finished the game with 19 points, shooting 8-for-12 (66.7 percent) from the field.

After the break, the Royals came out with a 10-2 run, cutting into Humber's lead. The inconsistent effort that Humber head coach Samson Downey stressed pregame continued to be a problem for the Hawks. However, once again, energy-plays helped the Hawks prevail. Kevin Otoo managed to fire up his teammates by grabbing three consecutive offensive rebounds, eventually going to the foul line. The two teams continued to exchange buckets before the Royals took their first lead since the first quarter, heading into the final frame leading, 67-66.

In the fourth quarter, a flagrant foul on DeQuon Cascart changed the game. Cascart converted on two free throws and followed that by a layup, making it a four-point play. The Royals fought hard to battle back, but the Hawks made big shots and closed out the game with a win. Jordan Francis concluded the game with a dunk at the sound of the horn, making a statement that Humber is a serious threat this year.

No. 3 Humber will conclude the first half of the regular season on Dec. 1 when St. Clair (3-4, 7th West) visits the North Campus Gym. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. and will be streamed live the Hawks Sports Network.
