CASCART'S 29 POINTS LIFTS No. 4 HUMBER PAST UTM, 91-77

MISSISSAUGA, Ont -- No. 4 Humber men's basketball led wire-to-wire against the University of Toronto Mississauga-Eagles Wednesday night, winning 91-77, and improving to 7-0 on the young season.

Once again, the Hawks displayed a dominant performance on the road. Energy plays seem to be the key to Humber's early success and making big plays at the right time has been a constant theme this season. Head coach Samson Downey credited the energy plays as the key to Wednesday's victory.

"I'm happy with the win. But it's about coming with a consistent effort for 40 minutes, and we're just not there yet. I'm hoping we get there when it counts."

DeQuon Cascart and Jaylan Morgan kicked off the game with two three-pointers, each, helping the Hawks begin the game with a 15-5 run. Cascart had his best game of the season, finishing with a game-high 29 points while shooting 62 percent (ten-of-16) from the field, adding two steals and three books. Jaylan Morgan also had a big contribution, finishing with 21 points (eight-for-nine FG), nine rebounds and five assists. Despite the hot-start from the Hawks, things began to cool down for them near the end of the first quarter. The Eagles began to find their groove on offence and managed to trim the lead to four. 

In the second half, Cascart took over the game, leading the way on offence and defence. It does not take much for Cascart to fire up his teammates, but after a two-handed slam, the entire Hawks team seemed to have gotten some momentum.

In the fourth quarter, UTM's crowd tried all they can to boost their team to a comeback. Just as the Eagles cut their deficit to ten points, Jordon Francis converted a deep three-pointer to put all hope of a comeback attempt to rest. Francis was not done, shortly after the three he had a monster dunk that got the entire crowd out off their seats. 

"He had a great game," said Coach Downey. "He hit a couple of shots early, and I think that got him going. When he's scoring it's a huge bonus, he means so much to this team, so I was happy to see him have a good game."

When asked what has been the key to the undefeated start, coach Samson said "Just sticking to what we do and buying in. The start is great, but the focus is now on Redeemer for next Wednesday."

What's Next?
No. 4 Humber will return to the North Campus Gym Nov. 28 to host Redeemer (5-2, 4th West). Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
