CTA Star Kevin Otoo Commits to Humber Basketball

ETOBICOKE, Ont -- The Humber Hawks men's basketball program is pleased to announce the signing of Kevin Otoo for the upcoming 2018-19 varsity season, announced head coach Samson Downey.

Otoo, a six-foot guard from Toronto, Ont., joins the Hawks after a successful playing career at Central Toronto Academy and Peoples Basketball.

"We are extremely excited to sign Kevin for this upcoming season," said Coach Downey, who is entering his first season at the helm for the Hawks. "The way he carries himself on the court makes him a perfect cultural fit for our program."

Otoo joins the Hawks as a highly-touted recruit and was named one of HooptownGTA's Top High School Players this year.

With the CTA Wolves, Otoo had a successful 2017-18 basketball campaign, winning numerous tournaments and most valuable player awards during the season.

At the 37th Annual Humber Classic tournament, Otoo's tournament-high 37 points in the championship game against Vaughan S.S. sealed the title for CTA, who finished the 16-team tournament undefeated.

"I chose Humber College because it felt like home for me," said Otoo. "I can see myself doing big things in a Humber uniform."

Otoo has enrolled in the Recreation and Leisure Services program, a two-year diploma from Humber College.

"Kevin has a calm demeanour on the court and never looks out of place," added Coach Samson. "We are excited to welcome him to the Hawk family."

Last season the Hawks finished the regular season with a 15-5 record, advancing to the OCAA tournament for a record 35th consecutive season.

Humber basketball tryouts begin September 4, and all full-time Humber and UGH students are welcome to attend. Any student wishing to attend tryouts are encouraged to fill out the online Prospective Athlete Form.
