ETOBICOKE, ON - The Humber Hawks men's basketball team will be playing their second exhibition game of the pre-season, which is also their last game before team tryouts take place the following week. This sets up an opportunity for the players to showcase their skills for the last time in competitive action, before the start of the new semester. This is the first meeting between the Humber Hawks and the Carnegie Mellon Tartans, an NCAA Division 2 from Pittsburgh.

 LAST TIME OUT

  • The Hawks lost their opening pre-season matchup against the Regis University Rangers in a hard fought game. The team competed with a new line-up, and without head coach Patrick Au.
  • Despite a lack of practice time, the new recruits were still able to put up strong performances against the Regis University Rangers. The Hawks will look to further build on their momentum as the new line up continues to become accustomed with the returning players,
  • Humber was led by the stand out efforts from new recruits Fowzi Mohamoud and Jaspreet Singh, who had 15 and 16 points respectively.

SCOUTING Carnegie Mellon University:

  • The Tartans finished with an overall record of 14 wins and 12 losses last year and were
eliminated in the first round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) playoffs to Stockton University. This was their fourth appearance in the post season.
  • Head coach Tony Wingen is the all-time winningest coach in school history.
  • Four new recruits are replacing the recent graduates, which includes former Tartan star Jack Serbin, the school's single season leader in rebounds and blocks. The new recruits are guards Matt Carson and Zach Watson, along with forwards Ethan Miller and Dan Weiss.
  • Ryan Maha is the new leading scorer for the team, who averaged 12.1 points per game last season on 33% shooting. Maha also leads the team in minutes played and 3-point field goals made.
  • Averaged 74 points per game as a team last season but average fewer points, rebounds, steals, and blocks on the road compared to home games. The Tartans had a record of 5 wins and 7 losses in away games.

HAWK NOTES:

  • A New Class: Recent recruits Fowzi Mohamoud, Terry Hill, Jaspreet Singh, Jerome Gayle, and Stefan Grujic will be playing in their second game for the Hawks. Gabe Anderson and Byron Trench will be joining the team for the first time.
  • Key Players Returning: C.J. Bennett (third year), DeQuon Cascart (second year), Jordan Rose (fourth year), Curwin Elvis (fourth year)
