GAYLE COMMITS TO HUMBER BASKETBALL

GAYLE COMMITS TO HUMBER BASKETBALL

ETOBICOKE, Ont -- The men's basketball program has signed Jerome Gayle, a six-foot-five forward with OCAA experience, for the upcoming 2017-18 season.

"Jerome is a great addition to our team," said head coach Patrick Au, who led the Hawks to a bronze medal in his first season at the helm.  "He's a talented, multi-skilled athlete who comes to us with some playing experience having been at Mohawk College previously."

Gayle, who hails from Toronto, Ontario, played two seasons for the Mohawk Mountaineers, winning two provincial medals during that span.  In his second season, he recorded a career-high 24 points in a home win against the Cambrian Golden Shield.

"I chose Humber College because of the culture of the school both academically and athletically," Gayle said.  "I really enjoyed the energy I felt during my campus visit, and it's a bonus that I'll be close to home."

Gayle will be furthering his education once he begins the Fitness and Health Promotion program at Humber's North Campus, a two-year diploma that he will start in September.

"Fitness and health have always played a significant role in my life, and I'd love to help others with my methods and experiences," added Gayle.

Gayle will be joining a new look Humber squad after three starters graduated last season yet there will still be at least one face on the squad he is familiar with.

"DeQuon [Cascart] and I grew up in the same neighbourhood," said Gayle.  "I watched him develop into the good ball player he is today.  So it'll be exciting to play alongside him and the other great players on this team."

"Jerome is a great young man with a great attitude, and these qualities will be essential to our program as we continue to build a national championship contender," added Coach Au.

Gayle, along with incoming recruits Jaspreet Singh and Terry Hill, will join the rest of the Humber men's basketball program on September 5 when open tryouts begin.
