HAWKS-ROYALS A CLASSIC TRAP GAME FOR No.3 HUMBER

HAWKS-ROYALS A CLASSIC TRAP GAME FOR No.3 HUMBER

ANCASTER, ON: With a guaranteed bye into the 2015-16 OCAA Championship and a current nine-game win streak, life is pretty good for the no.3 Humber Hawks men's basketball (12-3, 2nd West) team.

And why wouldn't it be?

The program is healthier than it has been all season and the defending national champions are now able to put their best lineup on the court, night in and night out. 13 student-athletes are averaging double-digit playing time for head coach Shawn Collins and each one has made an immeasurable impact in how the team plays on both ends of the floor.

Barring any unforeseen incidents, the Hawks will finish as the best defensive program in the division for the fourth straight season.   In summation: in a game where momentum is everything, the Hawks are in a good place right now.

Which is why there could be reason for concern in Ancaster Friday night, as Humber gets set to face the Redeemer Royals (4-10, 8th West) – on paper a winnable game.  Six games below .500, the Royals should not offer much of a threat given how everything is going perfect for Humber.  If you look closer however, Friday night has "trap game" written all over it.

For starters, Redeemer's record is misleading.  Half of their losses have been by ten points or less and Rayvon Higdon is third in the province in scoring, averaging 20.8 points-per-game.  Despite the poor record, the Royals are still able to capture the final playoff in the west division if they can win their last four games, making Redeemer a desperate team.

The Hawks meanwhile, will be hosting their crosstown rivals in less than ten days and want nothing more than to win their fifth-consecutive game against the Sheridan Bruins (12-3, 2nd West). Now you can begin to see how the defending national champions may overlook Friday night's game.

Earlier in the season, the Hawks hosted the Royals and cruised to an 89-71 win behind a career-high 29 points from second-year guard Matthew Bukovec (Toronto).  Team captain Gibson Eduful (Toronto) picked up his first double-double of the season, finishing the game with 16 points and 12 assists.

For those unable to make the trip to Ancaster, the game will be live-streamed thanks to the department of athletics and recreation at Redeemer University.  The link is provided below:
