Softball Clinches Regular Season Title for the First Time in Program History

KITCHENER – Humber softball (19-5, 1st OCAA) made history Thursday evening, becoming the first team in program history to win the regular-season title. Humber split its final doubleheader of the year against Conestoga (12-10, 4th OCAA).

Game One: Humber 8, Conestoga 4
The Hawks needed just one win to lock-up first place and took care of business in game one. After allowing one run in the first inning, Humber responded by scoring four runs over the next three innings.

Meaghan Murphy paced Humber's offence in game one, picking up two hits, an RBI and a run scored.

Meagan Muir picked up her league-leading eighth win of the season, giving up eight hits and two earned runs over six innings of work. Muir also scored three runs.

Game Two: Conestoga 7, Humber 5
The Hawks dug themselves an early hole in game two, giving up seven runs in the first five innings.

The freshman stepped up in the final inning attempting to make a comeback. Jessica MacPherson hit a two-run triple and scored when Emma Woodrow hit a triple of her own.

Woodrow, MacPherson, and Breanna Oliver finished with three hits, each, while MacPherson finished with a game-high three RBI.

Humber Highlights

  • Humber's 19 wins are the most in program history, surpassing 2018's win total of 17.
  • In 12 seasons, the Hawks have finished second twice and third three times.

Humber softball will head to the 2019 OCAA Championship in London, beginning Oct. 18. Humber's first-round opponent has yet to be determined.
