Pierson Throws Perfect Game on Seniors Night

ETOBICOKE – An emotional night at Connorvale Park was highlighted by a historic pitching performance from Myranda Pierson, who threw the first perfect game in program history.

Humber softball (18-4, 1st OCAA) swept Seneca (0-24, 7th OCAA) Oct. 8 and before the doubleheader held a special ceremony for four senior graduates: Meaghan Murphy, Myranda Pierson, Rachel Matheson-Green, and Kate Kostuch.

Game One: Humber 6, Seneca 0

Senior Meaghan Murphy opened the scoring for the Hawks, ripping an RBI single in the home half of the first inning.

Second-year infielder Alexis Ferreira continued her breakout 2019 campaign, crushing her second home run of the season in the third inning.

Senior Rachel Matheson-Green made her final home start of her career, allowing one hit over 2.2 innings of work. Presly Buchanan came on in relief, firing 4.1 innings of no-hit ball, striking out eight and picking up her sixth win of the season.

Game Two: Humber 10, Seneca 0 – 5-innings

Senior Myranda Pierson was the headline in game two, making history in her final home start. The hard-throwing righty carved up the Seneca hitters, striking out ten hitters over the first four innings.

On Seniors Night it is customary for graduates to be lifted in the final inning so they can exit to a standing ovation from the home crowd. However, Pierson had pitched herself into a unique situation – one that is not discussed or hinted at in fear of jinxing one of the most difficult accomplishments in the game of softball. So, in the fifth inning, Coach Bowles sent Pierson back out to the circle to finish what she started. Pierson did not disappoint, striking out the first two batters to begin the inning. With history on the line, Seneca hitter Chantal Gendron hit a ground ball back to Pierson, who turned and threw to first to get the final out.

Humber's offence was led by Hannah Koziolek, who hit a three-run home run in the first inning. Alexis Ferreira hit her second home run of the night in the fourth inning, collecting four hits during the twin bill.
