Offence Erupts for Softball in Doubleheader Sweep of St. Clair

WINDSOR – Humber softball's (14-4, 1st OCAA) offence finally erupted, sweeping the twin bill Saturday afternoon against St. Clair (15-9, 3rd OCAA). The offence scored 24 runs on 23 hits – including four home runs.

Game One: Humber 11, St. Clair 0
The Hawks opened the scoring immediately, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. Kate Kostuch blasted a three-run home run, scoring Jessica MacPherson and Presly Buchanan.

Humber put another five-spot on the board in the third inning, highlighted by Meagan Muir's two-run home run.

Big game Presly Buchanan picked up her fifth win of the season, recording the complete game shutout after allowing one hit while striking out six. Buchanan helped the cause in the fourth inning, launching a solo shot for her second home run of the season.

Game Two: Humber 13, St. Clair 3
The Hawks wasted little time in game two, jumping on St. Clair ace Olivia Elliot, scoring three runs over the first two frames.

Senior Meaghan Murphy doubled in the fourth inning, driving home Alexa Vassos and Hannah Koziolek.

St. Clair was finally able to get on the board in the home half of the fourth when Jessica Hebert hit a two-run home run.

Humber responded in the fifth, putting up six runs on two swings. Hayley Pasma crushed a grand slam, recording her second career home run. Presly Buchanan added to her monster day, hitting a two-run double to ice the game.

Meagan Muir picked up her league-leading sixth win of the season, giving up three runs on six hits in four innings of work.

Humber Highlights

• Presly Buchanan finished the twin bill with five hits and five RBI.
• Meaghan Murphy scored four runs and improved her batting average to .460.
• The Hawks swept St. Clair in Windsor for the first time in program history, improving to 4-12 all-time at Mic Mac Park.
• Humber improved its team ERA to a league-best 1.44.
• Head coach Duaine Bowles became the first head coach to win 60 career games.

Humber softball will conclude its regular-season series with Fanshawe (12-10, 4th OCAA) on Oct. 6. Game one is set for 1 p.m.
