ETOBICOKE – Humber softball (12-2, 1st OCAA) rolled to a season series sweep of the Mohawk Mountaineers (4-8, 7th OCAA) Tuesday night at Connorvale Park. The Hawks rode its bullpen to a win in game one, 5-2, and then their bats came to life in game two, ending the night early with a 10-0 win in five innings.
Game One: Humber 5, Mohawk 2
Mohawk opened the scoring in game one, capitalizing on numerous defensive miscues by Humber's defence.
Hayley Pasma drove in her second run of the season in the home half of the second, scoring Kate Kostuch on a single.
The big blow came in the third inning when Sarah Franchetto launched a no-doubt two-run home run to left field – her second on the season.
Kadyn Wotton picked up her second win of the season, throwing 3.2 innings of shutout softball in relief of Presly Buchanan.
Humber's bullpen was dominant in the final innings. Rachel Matheson-Green came on in the sixth, throwing a three-up, three-down inning. Myranda Pierson picked up her second save of the year, striking out the side in order.
Game Two: Humber 10, Mohawk 0
The Hawks were able to capitalize on Mohawk's poor defence in game two, scoring ten runs on nine hits.
Alexa Vassos, Presly Buchanan, and Meagan Muir recorded two RBI, each, while Hannah Koziolek swiped two bases to bring her season total to eight.
Meagan Muir continued her 2019 brilliance in the circle, throwing another complete game for the win. Muir's only blemish came in the fifth inning when the hard-throwing righty allowed a lead-off single to begin the inning.
Humber Highlights
- Franchetto's two home runs is a new career-high and the right fielder currently sits third all-time with four career long balls.
- Meagan Muir is the first pitcher to win five games this season.
- With a hit in game one, Meaghan Murphy now sits third all-time on Humber's career-hits list.

Humber softball will begin a tough six-game road trip starting with the Durham Lords (9-5, 2nd OCAA) on Oct. 2 at Durham Field. Game one of the doubleheader is set for 6 p.m.
