Softball Sweeps Mohawk on the Road to Open ’19 Campaign

HAMILTON – The Humber softball program opened the 2019 season Sunday afternoon, sweeping the Mohawk Mountaineers 6-0 and 7-2.

Second-year infielder Alexis Ferreira led the way offensively for Humber, finishing the twin bill with five hits and six stolen bases.

Highly touted recruit Presly Buchanan made her Humber debut and did not disappoint in the circle. The hard-throwing righty fired five shutout frames and picked up seven strikeouts along the way. Buchanan contributed offensively as well, hitting back-to-back triples with Meaghan Murphy in the first inning. Rachel Matheson-Green and Kadyn Wotton shut down the Mountaineers over the final two frames, helping the Hawks to secure the game one victory, 6-0.

Fresh off her exhibition no-hitter against Conestoga, Meagan Muir threw for the Hawks in game two. The right-hander continued her impressive run, throwing six solid innings to pick up the win. Buchanan, Murphy, and Ferreira collected two hits each, helping Humber complete the road sweep with 7-2 victory.
