MEMORABLE NIGHT FOR SENIORS AS HAWK SWEEP STING TO END REGULAR SEASON 17-7

ETOBICOKE, ON: Five Humber Hawks women's softball players played their final regular season game on Friday night at their home of Connorvale Park, and the nights sweep of Seneca secured Humber's seventeenth win of the season, their best ever mark.

With the win, combined with a Durham sweep of Mohawk, has the Hawks place third in the division with a 17-7 record. Durham was one better in both columns, finishing at 18 and 6. These two teams will meet to open up the 2018 post-season next Friday at Conestoga. First place St. Clair will square off with Fanshawe.

As mentioned above, the night was filled with emotion as Aaliyah Davidson, Bree Donaldson, Bonnie Gillingham, Terah Camilleri and Elisa Gregoris played their final OCAA regular season game. And, it was memorable. The night started with tributes and gifts to all of the seniors, and the tears flowed as Coach Bowles pulled the "classy" card out his pocket and had the girls leave the field late in the game individually.  As they came off, there was both hugs and tears.

GAME 1
Humber 10 vs Seneca 0 (5 innings)

The Hawks and Sting were scoreless through the first two innings, with both hurlers on top of their game. Humber broke through in the third with two runs, and then continued the merry go round by scoring six in the fourth and closing out the mercy win with two more in the fifth.

Myranda Pierson secured her team leading eighth win of the season, to go with just three losses. She gave up only two hits, and struck out 10.

Three Hawks rapped out two hits each, while Gregoris and Davidson had three RBI's. Gregoris three runs batted in gave her a record setting 37. In a cool twist, Gregoris matched her RBI total with 37 hits on the year.

GAME 2
Humber 5 vs Seneca 2

In what was a much tighter game, it was the visiting Sting that broke through first, and had a 1-0 lead after their first at bat. The Hawks struck back quick and led 3-1 after one complete inning.  Humber was able to tack on two more in the third, only to see Seneca respond with a single marker in the fourth, but that was all of the scoring in game two.

Senior Bree Donaldson went 5.1 innings for her second win of the year, and it was Meagan Muir who went the rest of the way to secure the save.

Aaliyah Davidson and Alexa Vassos led the Hawks with two hits each, and Bonnie Gillingham led both teams with two RBI's.

OF NOTE

After five years of play, all of it together, Bonnie Gillingham and Elisa Gregoris finished their career one and two in all time Humber hits. Gillingham secured the number one spot with 141, while Gregoris was just a single knock behind, at 140.
