OFFENCE HELPS SOFTBALL EARN SPLIT WITH ST. CLAIR

WINDSOR, Ont – The Humber softball team (8-4, 3rd OCAA) concluded its ten-game road trip Sunday afternoon, splitting the twin bill with the tough St. Clair Saints (13-3, 1st OCAA).

Humber crushed two long balls and collected 24-hits on the day, finishing the road trip with a 6-4 record.

Game One: St. Clair 7, Humber 6
At the afternoon matinee, the Hawks took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Saints were quick to respond when Megan Lumley hit a three-run home run in the second inning to give the Saints a 3-1 lead.

Defensively, the Hawks made a few costly errors which inevitably allowed the Saints to capitalize and increase their lead.

Down 7-4 in the final frame, the Hawks had the meat of their order up. Aaliyah Davidson brought the Hawks within two with a solo shot to deep left field. Bonnie Gillingham trimmed the lead to one with an RBI single, scoring Meaghan Murphy.

With Gillingham in scoring position, Humber was unable to bring her home, dropping game one, 7-6.

Olivia Elliott recorded the win for the Saints, improving to 7-2 on the season. Third-year starter Rachel Matheson-Green took her first loss of the year, falling to 4-1.

Game Two: Humber 9, St. Clair 3
The backend of the twin bill saw Humber respond with their bats fiercely and consistently but not before going down 2-0 in the first inning. Fourth-year pitcher Bree Donaldson got the nod for the Hawks, facing the Saints lineup one time through.

The Hawks strung together multiple hits off of St. Clair's Sara Stiller in the bottom of the second to go up 3-2.

The floodgates opened for the Hawks batters in the fourth inning when freshman first baseman Hayley Pasma, hit a three-run homer to extend the lead to 6-2.

Second-year catcher Emily Erskine was locked in at the plate, driving in two big insurance runs, making the score 9-3.

Fourth-year ace Myranda Pierson came in in the second and closed the door only allowing one earned run.

Sara Stiller fell to 5-1 on the season, while Pierson improved to 3-2 on the year.

Game Notes

• Aaliyah Davidson hit her fourth career home run, moving into second all-time at Humber.
• Through 12 games, Humber has scored 101 runs and is on pace to shatter the program record of 173 set in 2017.
• Hayley Pasma recorded her first career home run and finished with a career-high three RBI.
• Elisa Gregoris tied her career-high with 20 RBI and now sits ten RBI from setting the OCAA single-season record.

Humber softball returns to the friendly confines of Connorvale Park on Sept. 27 for a doubleheader with Mohawk (3-9, 6th OCAA). Game one is set for 6 p.m. and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
