The Storyline
The Humber softball team (6-2, 2nd OCAA) will be making its annual trip to southwest Ontario to wrap-up the season series with Fanshawe (3-5, 5th OCAA) on Sept. 22. The Hawks will then head to Windsor on Sept. 23 to square off against St. Clair (10-2, 1st OCAA) for the first time this season.

Last Time Out
Humber scored big to get back on the winning side of things, beating the Seneca Sting (0-8, 7th OCAA) with scores of 8-1 and 19-0.

The Hawks put up 19 runs in the first inning in game two which marks the highest single-inning total for head coach Duaine Bowles.

Scouting Fanshawe

  • The Falcons got off to a bit of a rough start, but have managed to split in their last three series.
  • Fanshawe's ace, Nichole Erb, earned herself an OCAA Star of the Week honour, leading her team to their first three wins this season and has a 4.70 ERA.
  • Pacing the way for the Falcons on offence is Ali Bergman. She leads the team in RBI with ten and has an impressive .320 batting average in eight games played.

Previous Meeting
The Hawks swept the home-half of the series during their home opener on Sept. 8. In game one, Humber handed Nichole Erb her first and only loss of the season putting up seven runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings.

Game two saw Humber down 3-0 early in the game, but with the help of some veteran hitters, the Hawks took the win with a score of 6-4.

Scouting St. Clair

  • The Saints sit at the top of the league with a 10-2 record, currently riding a six-game winning streak.
  • St. Clair has a league-leading 34 extra-base hits in 12 games. Alexandra Senft leads the team with nine doubles, and Megan Lumley sits right behind her with four doubles and four triples.
  • Reigning OCAA Pitcher of the Year, Olivia Elliott, has thrown the second most innings in the league at 36.0, posting an ERA of 4.08.

Previous Meeting
The Saints got the best of the Hawks last year, taking the season series 3-1. In Windsor, the Saints swept away the Hawks with scores of 3-2 and 5-0. Humber was only shutout twice last year; both times came from the Saints.

St. Clair's ace, Olivia Elliott, struck out the Hawks a total of 20 times in two games.

Shining in the Circle
Humber leads the league with the lowest runs against with 28 over eight games played.

The Hawks have three pitchers in the top-ten for earned run average heading into the weekend. Fourth-year veteran Myranda Pierson leads the team – sitting third in the OCAA at 2.69 – followed by fourth-year gem Bree Donaldson with 3.39 (fifth). Third-year starter Rachel Matheson-Green follows with an ERA of 3.55.

League-Wide Recognition
Fifth-year standout Elisa Gregoris was named an OCAA Star of the Week on Monday. Gregoris leads the league with a scorching hot .556 batting average, as well as a league-high 17 RBI.

Gregoris currently owns a nine-game hit streak, dating back to the season finale of 2017. During that span, she has gone 16-for-30 (.533) with 20 RBI.

What's Next?
Humber will return to Connorvale Park Sept. 27 to host the Mohawk Mountaineers. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
