HAWKS CLAW THEIR WAY TO 2015 OCAA SILVER MEDAL

OSHAWA, ON: The Humber Hawks women's softball team fought the fight like no other, on their way to winning the OCAA Silver Medal on Saturday afternoon at Durham College. Ultimately it was the host Lords who hoisted the championship plaque, but based on how they played and fought their way into the gold medal round a silver medal sure tastes like gold.

Humber opened the event by dropping a 6-0 decision to the second place Fanshawe Falcons, a game that saw the London club in control all the way. After the Durham squad upset the defending champion St. Clair Saints, it was this same Saints team staring at the Hawks in the elimination game on Friday night.

The Saints, fresh off winning the CCSA Nationals a couple of weeks ago and winning the OCAA Division title, looked like a team primed to get back into the gold medal race. But, it was the Hawks that dominated this game, winning in mercy fashion by a score of 11-1.

Next up was the Bronze Medal game against the Fanshawe Falcons, and this game, a 19-15 Hawk win was one of the most incredible games of all time. The win included home runs, teams coming back from six run deficits, six pitchers and a triple play.

The Hawks were beaten up and emotionally drained leading into the final. But, once again they battled, but were unable to capitalize early in the game and ultimately fell 7-3.

Outstanding performances were put in by all, with many deserving of post-tournament recognition. The brightest of the Hawks were Hilary Redrup and Katelyn Pitek, as they were selected to the tournament all-star team.
