HAWKS DEFEAT SENECA ON BLUSTERY DAY

MISSISSAUGA, ON: The Humber Hawks, looking to secure third spot in the upcoming OCAA Championships next week, defeated the Seneca Sting 7-1 in the first game of a doubleheader on Monday night at Wildwood Park.

The score was not the focus of the game, with the weather taking over everyone's attention. The winds were blowing in so fiercely directly in from centerfield that the outfielders for both teams were almost on the infield edge. A number of balls destined for the outfield turned into  popouts for the middle infielders.

The difference took place early as the home team raced out to a 3-0 lead. It wasn't until late in the game when the Hawks tacked on to put the game out of reach. But, at 7-0, the visiting Sting pushed across a run to break Hawk ace Myranda Pierson's shot at a complete game shutout.

Natalie Stoberman led both teams in the opening game, with three hits.

After witnessing game one and the associated winds, the final blow in game two was almost impossible to believe. Hawk four-hole hitter Hilary Redrup launched a game ending home run, to complete the six inning mercy by a score of 12-2.

With the pair of wins, the Hawks record moves to 15-7 on the season.

Humber does have two games remaining on its regular season schedule, both against Durham, but due to time restraints those two might not be played. If they cannot be played, or if Durham drops a game to Conestoga on Tuesday night, the Hawks will claim third place and a meeting with Fanshawe at the OCAA Championships.
