HAWKS SWEEP TWO FROM SENECA BY LOPSIDED SCORES

NORTH YORK, ON: The first game of the doubleheader at Seneca was tight through the first four innings and the host Sting held a 1-0 lead going into the fifth. The Hawks exploded in that inning and went on to an 18-2 win. Game Two continued just as Game One ended, with Humber putting up 11 in their first at bat, on their way to a 21-2 win.

With the two wins, the Hawks improve their season record to 10-6 and are not only battling for a play-off spot, but for final league placement as well. They have 6 losses, while the top two teams currently sit with 5 losses.

The Hawks finally got the monkey off their back and broke their five game losing streak by dropping the Seneca Sting 18-2 and 21-2 last night. In total, Humber put up 24 hits in each game to give starting pitchers Bree Donaldson and Myranda Pierson large cushions to work with.

After a slow first four innings in which Humber trailed 1-0 to the Sting, the Hawks finally woke up and went on a scoring rampage to put up seven runs in the top of the fifth inning alone. Shortstop Kaitlyn Pitek had her best start since coming off of injury and went 3-for-4 with a walk, scored twice and knocked in two runs. Each Hawk scored at least twice in the last three innings for Donaldson's five innings of work to hold Seneca to six hits and one earned run.

Pierson owned the mound in Game Two but also had a red-hot Humber offense to keep her off of the field for long periods of time. Humber threw up an 11 run inning with a large chunk of those runs coming off of a Grand Slam from first baseman Hilary Redrup and catcher Terah Camilleri's second dinger of the season for a three-run shot to left-center field. The hitting onslaught remained consistent throughout the rest of the game. Closer Amanda Van De Graaf finished both games in quick time with five strikeouts in three innings of work combined.

The Hawks improve to 10-6 and have their next challenge on Thursday evening when they host the Durham Lords at Wildwood Park at 6 and 8 p.m.
