HAWKS FLY TO OSHAWA FOR KEY MATCH-UP WITH DURHAM

OSHAWA, Ontario: The Humber Hawks, off to a flying start with a 4-1 record, will travel to Oshawa for key early season doubleheader with the Durham Lords. The first pitch will be tossed at 6:00 pm, from the Durham College Playing Fields.

Durham, 2015 OCAA Bronze Medalists, are off to a very solid start as well. They currently lead the league with a record of 7-1, losing only to the St. Clair Saints on the back end of a doubleheader. Humber, as mentioned above, are 4-1 but will have a lot of games in a short period of time as they have suffered three rainouts thus far.

The Lords have seven players batting over .300 on the season, led by Meaghan Maddigan. Maddigan, at .444, sits in the ninth spot in the league leader's category.

On the mound, Caitlyn Omelanchuk has been the class of the league, with a 4-0 record and a league leading ERA of 0.85. The key to the Lords success, especially with all games being doubleheaders this year, is their pitching depth.

Humber does not put anyone in the top ten category of OCAA leaders, but still boast four year standout Natalie Stoberman, and her .400 average. Elise Gregoris, the Hawks three-hole hitter, is having a good year, batting over .300. She consistently hits the ball hard to all fields and is a key to the Hawks offence.

Pitcher Myranda Pierson is probably the biggest recruit the Hawks have ever acquired, and she has provided everything that was expected of her. She is 3-0, with a second best 1.66 ERA. On Sunday, with her on the mound, the Hawks knocked off the defending champs from St. Clair by a score of 1-0.

Should either team sweep tonight, it would go a long way in determining the eventual regular season champion, and play-off seeding. A split would result in the continuation of one of the most competitive seasons, across the board, in OCAA women's softball play.
