HAWKS FALL IN EXTRA INNINGS, FINISH FOURTH AT NATIONALS
UPDATE: Humber's Women's Softball Team dropped the Bronze Medal Game to the University of Regina in extra innings at the Canadian Collegiate Softball Association (CCSA) Nationals, barely missing out on a national medal. The Hawks will now head home for next weekend's OCAA Championship, where they will attempt to win a third consecutive provincial title. The team heads into the tournament as the fourth seed, and will open against the host St. Clair Saints, whom the Hawks defeated 5-4 the last time the two met, on Saturday at 11:00am.
After the game, Tournament All-Stars were named and two Hawks were honoured for their standout performances throughout the weekend. Outfielder Elisa Gregoris, who batted an incredible .413 during the course of the OCAA regular season, and catcher Tera Camilleri, who led the Hawks with 18 regular season rbi's and owner of a .500 slugging percentage, were the blue and gold's representatives.

SOFTBALL ADVANCES TO NATIONAL SEMI-FINAL

Day two of the CCSA Softball Nationals saw Humber College claim a berth in the National semi-final.
The Hawks closed out the round robin portion of their schedule with an 11-3 loss to the University of Western Ontario. The final score in this game did not tell the whole story as one mistake cost the Hawks. With Western up 4-1 and the bases loaded, Shannon Davidson of Western stepped up to the plate. Down 0-2 in the count, Davidson took advantage of a mistake that resulted in a grand slam and an 8-1 Western lead. The Humber offense registered the first runs against Western in this tournament. Catcher Terah Camilleri, OF Elisa Gregoris and 1B Hilary Redrup contributed with extra-base hits.
After round-robin play, Humber was seeded 3rd in Pool A. Their quarterfinal match-up saw them square off against a familiar foe, Durham College.
Showing a will to win and coming together as a team, Humber walked off the diamond with an 8-7 win. Starting pitcher Amanda Van De Graaf worked in and out of trouble, going the distance in the biggest start of her career. The Humber offense countered Durham blow for blow. After getting down two runs in the first, the Hawks countered with 5 runs in the second. OF Aaliyah Davidson chipped in with two hits and two RBI's. Triples off the bats of 2B Jaime Vieira and 1B Natalie Stoberman paced the offense.
The Lady Hawks have now earned the right to play for a medal. In their quest for gold, they next take the diamond in the National semi-final against Western. With two games guaranteed tomorrow, a medal is within sight.
WOMEN'S SOFTBALL OPENS PLAY AT CCSA SOFTBALL NATIONALS

The Humber College Women's Softball team opened play today at the Canadian Collegiate Softball Association (CCSA) Nationals. The Nationals are being hosted by the University of Calgary in Calgary, AB.
The Hawks earned their berth into the tournament based on capturing the OCAA Women's Softball Championship in 2013. The other representatives from across the country include: St. Clair College (Windsor, ON- OCAA), Durham College (Oshawa, ON- OCAA), University of Western Ontario (London, ON- OIWFA), University of Regina (Regina, SK- WCSA), SAIT (Calgary, AB- WCSA), University of Calgary (Calgary, AB- WCSA) and the University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon, SK). Humber's competition in Pool A consists of Western, Regina and SAIT.
Day one of play saw the ladies split, dropping a tight game against the University of Regina 3-0 and beating SAIT 18-1.
Game one was a pitcher's duel, with Jessie Ulens of Humber squaring off against Alyssa Taylor from Regina. Both pitchers went the distance, with Ulens scattering 5 hits in keeping Regina hitters off balance. The Hawks could muster only 2 hits against Taylor, coming from the bats of Tera Camilleri (double) and Elisa Gregoris (single). Unable to capitalize on chances late, Humber dropped game one 3-0. Ulens was named the Humber Player of The Game.
In a must-win situation and looking to bounce back in a big way, Humber did just that in game two against SAIT. In a game called after 3 innings due to the mercy rule, Humber walked away victorious by a score of 18-1. Offensive contributions came from the entire lineup. Highlights included booming home runs from the bats of Camilleri and Julia Catalano. Gregoris (3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI's), Natalie Stoberman (2 for 2 with a double, walk and a RBI), Catalano (2 for 3 with a triple, homerun and 3 RBI's), Kaitlyn Pitek (2 for 4 with 2 singles and 2 RBI's) and Bonnie Gillingham (2 for 3 with a single, double and a RBI) all had multi-hit games. Pitcher Amanda Van De Graaf struck out 4 SAIT hitters in her 3 innings of work. Catcher Tera Camilleri was named the Humber Player of The Game.
The women will next take the field on Sunday morning against the University of Western Ontario to conclude round robin play. The Lady Hawks are assured of moving on to the playoff round. All that is left to be determined is seeding.

HAWKS OFF TO CALGARY FOR NATIONALS
The Humber Hawks Women's Softball Team is headed to the University of Calgary this weekend for the 2014 Canadian Collegiate Softball Association National Championships. The Championships will take place from October 10-13, with eight teams competing in the three-day tournament to be crowned best in Canada.
Humber sits at 10-7 at the end of their regular slate, good for fourth in the province and a playoff spot. The OCAA Championships will run next weekend, where the blue and gold will open up against the host St. Clair Saints in search of a third consecutive title.
The Hawks are one of three OCAA teams that will be competing for the national title, the other two being the Durham Lords and aforementioned Saints. Rounding out the draw, from the Ontario Intercollegiate Women's Softball Association, is Western University, along with four members of the Western Collegiate Softball Association in SAIT, the University of Calgary, the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan.
The blue and gold will kick off their weekend on Saturday when they face Regina, followed later in the day by a match-up with SAIT. The preliminary round finishes on Sunday with a game against Western; from their, each pools top three teams will advance to the elimination portion of the Championship.
