HAWKS JUMP AHEAD EARLY AND HANG ON FOR OCAA MIXED CURLING GOLD

HAMILTON, ON: The Humber Hawks mixed curling team took Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock's "show up for work on time" philosophy to heart, and road an early outburst on their way to an 8-7 title game win over the Fanshawe Falcons.

Humber advanced to the 2019 OCAA Mixed Curling championship game by way a division best 3-1 record, with their only loss coming by the hands of the Falcons. In the double round-robin format, the Hawks had beaten Fanshawe on day one of the event.

It was a lead-off two in the first, followed by a big four in the third that had Humber in control, leading 6-1 after three ends. Fanshawe chipped away, but another big two spot in the sixth end push Humber up by four, with two to play. The persistent Falcons chipped away once again with three over the final two frames, but the Hawks held on to grab their second OCAA mixed gold in three years. It is important to note that Humber did not ice a mixed team last year.

The team was comprised of Nadia Marrast, Jenna Clarke, Gavin Hinton and skip Jonah Paquette. Kacie Ransom was the fifth member of the team, but unable to play because of injury.

Unfortunately for the mixed team, the CCAA does not support the discipline at the National championships.
