Baseball sweeps Sault in first-ever meeting

ETOBICOKE – Humber baseball (15-1, 1st OCAA) cruised to a doubleheader sweep Friday afternoon, picking up two wins in ten innings over the newly formed Sault College Cougars (2-16, 9th OCAA) in both games of their twin bill. The Hawks exploded offensively, scoring 25 runs over the afternoon's doubleheader, while its pitching and defence only allowed three hits on the day. Jack St. Louis picked up three hits on the day, while Hudson Lockwood added to his team lead in RBIs.

Game One (Humber 11, Sault 0 - 5 innings)

It was a brisk afternoon at Connorvale Park, and it took some time for the Humber sticks to heat up. After a scoreless first inning, the Hawks would return in the second, putting up six runs on four hits. Tyrus Bath opened the scoring, driving in Dylan White and Justin Groves. A batter later, Giuseppe Sisca would cross the plate after a Caleb Eguren sacrifice fly to put the Hawks up by three. Back-to-back RBI triples from Hudson Lockwood and Aidan Murphy, would double Humber's lead to six.

Humber would continue their offensive pressure in the third with a lead-off double that an RBI single would cash in by White, who would later cross the plate on a hit by Eguren to right field. A batter later, Lockwood doubled, with Bath and Sisca adding to the Hawks' lead. For the game's final run, Eguren scored from third on a bases-loaded walk.

Aidan Murphy was stellar on the bump once again, earning his third win of the year. A soft infield dribbler was the only thing preventing Murphy from recording his second no-hitter of the season.

Game Two (Humber 14, Sault 1 - 5 innings)

After both teams failed to score in the first inning, the Hawks' offensive momentum from game one continued in the second. The bottom of the second inning saw the Hawks open the scoring on an Esteban Rodriguez RBI single to left field, cashing Orillia-native Fraser Trivett. First-year outfielder Jack St. Louis would also single to left for an RBI, bringing home Rodriquez.

Humber dominated in the bottom of the third, scoring eight runs on five hits. The Hawks sent 14 batters to the plate in the inning. Six Hawks would record RBIs in the innings, including Esteban Rodriguez and Jack St. Louis picking up their second RBIs of the matchup. Fraser Trivett, David Boatto, Aidan Murphy, and Cameron Hahnfeld also picked up RBIs in the inning.

The Hawks had another offensive clinic in the fourth innings, plating four more runs to put them up by 13. This time around, Humber sent ten to the batter's box. With the bases load, Hudson Lockwood would score Antonio Barberio on a sac fly. Jack St. Louis would score on a wild pitch on the next at-bat. Three batters later, a Cameron Hahnfeld RBI walk would plate Caleb Eguren and award Hahnfeld his second RBI of the game. The very next at-bat was déjà vu for the Cougars' pitcher as he would walk Fraser Trivett to grant him his second RBI of the game as David Boatto would come into the score.

Being up by more than ten after the Cougars' half of the fifth, the mercy rule was invoked, and the Hawks would pick up their second win of the day and 15th of the season. The Hawks sent four pitchers to the mound in game two as they posted nine Ks and only allowed one run on two hits.
