Hawks Drop Semi Final 5-2 To Durham – Will Play For National Bronze

ETOBICOKE, ON: There will be no repeat for the Humber Hawks at the annual National Collegiate Baseball Championship, as the host team dropped a 5-2 decision to their rivals, the Durham Lords.

Humber knocked off the Lords last week in Oshawa to win the OCAA crown, but were unable to find the same magic on Friday night at Connorvale Park in Etobicoke.

Durham came out swinging and knocked out Hawks ace Steven Hough in the third, loading the bases in the first and third on their way to a huge 5-0 lead. Matt Stoddart came in and shut Durham down the rest of the way, but the damage had been done.

OCAA Pitcher of the Year, Michael Crouse of Durham, was at the top of his game. He was in control of the game from start to finish. Credit has to be given to the Lords defence, as they turned a number of key double plays along the way.

Humber will now play Holland College on Saturday, with the bronze medal at stake. The first pitch is set for 1:00 pm.

Durham will face BC's Thompson Rivers University for gold. In the three years of the tournament, it has been a different OCAA team that has won every year.
