ETOBICOKE – Humber baseball (12-5, 1st OCAA) concluded its regular-season homestand Friday night, splitting its doubleheader with Seneca (10-7, 4th OCAA) at Connorvale Park.
Game One: Humber 12, Seneca 2
The Humber Hawks got off to a quick start in the bottom of the first when Liam Sutherland hit a single, scoring Stephen Narhabecki.
The Sting were quick to respond scoring in the top of the second inning on a Jonah Bennis singled to score Jordan Blake. Seneca added on to their score in the top of the fourth seeing Kevin Monteiro double, to score Jonah Bennis.
Humber answered back in the bottom half when Dennis Dei Baning hit his first home run of the season over the right-field wall. The Hawks were able to take the momentum of Dei Baning's homer and continued to add on runs. Humber posted three runs in the fourth to take back the lead.
The Hawks were back at it in the bottom half of the fifth when Ty Martin singled to score Dei Baning and Sam Lebel.
Humber would go on to add five more runs through the rest of the fifth and the sixth inning.
The Hawks came out on top with a win in six innings via the mercy rule.
Senior Matt Stoddart got the nod for Humber, earning his third win of the season, throwing six complete innings, allowing two runs on six hits.
Game 2: Seneca 11, Humber 3
Humber took the field in game two with the momentum of the game one victory. The Hawks started the scoring in the bottom of the third inning when Sutherland scored on a balk to put Humber in the lead.
Humber's lead didn't last long as the Sting got on the board in the top of the fourth when Blake grounded out to the shortstop to score Rodney Gilbert from third. Seneca continued adding on in the sixth, scoring four consecutive runs.
Humber was quick to respond as Sutherland scored on a wild pitch in the bottom half of the fifth, and Aidan Murphy doubled to score Dei Baning.
Seneca answered scoring four more runs in the top of the sixth, and another two in the top of the seventh to silence the Hawks.
Senior Steven Hough received his second loss of the year throwing five innings allowing five runs on seven hits. Noah Williams earned his third win of the year for the Sting throwing seven complete innings allowing three runs on five hits.
Game Notes:
- Dennis Dei Baning hit his first home run of the season and now sits second all-time with three career homers.
- Matt Stoddart earned his seventh career win in game one.
- The Hawks finished the season with a 6-3 record at home

Humber can clinch the regular-season pennant for the second straight year with a win in its final regular-season game Oct. 13 at George Brown (5-10, 6th OCAA). First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
