Baseball Falls Flat Against Fanshawe, 7-4

ETOBICOKE – Humber baseball (11-3, 1st OCAA) saw its nine-game winning streak come to an end after a sloppy loss to Fanshawe (7-7, 4th OCAA) Saturday afternoon at Connorvale, 7-4.

The Falcons entered the game winners of four straight, playing with urgency to keep their playoff hopes alive. Catalin Morin tripled in the first and would eventually come around to score as Fanshawe jumped out to an early 2-0 lead.

Humber got on the board in the third, when Dennis Dei Baning roped a single to centre field to score Liam Sutherland.

Fanshawe extended its lead in the fifth when Judd Walker hit a three-run home run to straightaway centre field – his second of the season.

Veteran Steven Hough took his first loss of the season, giving up 11 hits and six runs over 4.1 innings of work. Of the 13 runs Hough has surrendered this season, 11 have come against Fanshawe.

Game Notes

• The Humber offence left 13 runners stranded, finishing 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
• Liam Sutherland reached base three times in the game and swiped his league-leading eighth base of the season. Sutherland is two stolen bases away from tying Daniel Campos for the most in program history with 27.

Humber baseball will conclude its regular-season series with Durham (6-6, 5th OCAA) on Oct. 9. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
