LONDON - The Humber men's baseball team split their opening doubleheader with the Fanshawe Falcons on Saturday night in London. The Falcons took game one in extra innings by way of a 7-6 walk-off win, and the Hawks responded with a dominant 13-6 win in the nightcap.
Game One: Fanshawe 7, Humber 6 - 8 innings
Humber got on the board to begin the game when the 2017 OCAA Player of the Year, Liam Sutherland, hit an RBI single to score third-year outfielder Stephen Narhabeki. The Falcons were quick to answer back putting up three runs on two hits - one of those being a two-run home run from designated hitter Josh Hare.
Fanshawe pitcher Kale Bilger threw a three-up three-down inning to support the Fanshawe offence as they took a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Hawks struck back in the sixth inning for three runs, all started by a Sutherland triple.
The Hawks tied the game in the top of the seventh inning when Aidan Murphy hit an RBI triple, forcing extra innings.
Humber was able to take the lead in the eighth inning on an RBI from Ty Martin that cashed Aidan Murphy but it wasn't enough. The Falcons responded and scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to walk off the Hawks and win the first game. Riley Pollard received the loss for Humber in his first appearance as a Hawk, and Joe Blakely records the win for Fanshawe.
Game Two: Humber 13, Fanshawe 6
Humber looked to bounce back hard from the first game and get to a (1-1) record to start off the season. In game two the Hawks starter Stephen Hough was outstanding on the mound. Hough went deep into game two throwing six full innings handing the ball over to First Year athlete Anthony Goddard who followed suit. The Hawks offence rattled the Falcons pitching rotation as they scrap together fifteen hits, produce thirteen runs and earn Hough the win. Falcons pitcher Noah Campagnolo was credited with the loss.

- The Hawks offence had fifteen hits combined off of six Falcons pitchers

The Humber Hawks will be playing a doubleheader Vs George Brown Huskies on Wednesday September 11th at Connorvale Park in Etoicoke. Game times are 5:00pm and 7:30pm.
