HAWKS HAND LORDS ACES FIRST LOSSES OF THE SEASON IN SWEEP

ETOBICOKE, ON: Give the league leading Humber Hawks (13-3) full credit for their sweep of the tough Durham Lords (6-8) today at Connorvale Park, as to get the two wins they had to knock off two of the hottest pitchers in the league in Alec Brown and Jake Legros. Both Durham hurlers entered the game with 3-0 records, with Brown boasting a miniscule ERA, while Legros was even better, not giving up a run all year.

Not only did Humber get to the Lords stars, they knocked they forced the Durham coaches to go to the bullpen for relief help in both games.

GAME 1
Humber 8 vs Durham 1

Durham ran out to a quick lead in the second, manufacturing a run off the Hawks Rory Pollard, the first run of any sort he has surrendered all year. Brown was the Brown the league has seen all year, not allowing the Hawks any opportunities through the first five innings.

The fifth is where the game broke open. The best place to explain this eight-run outburst is starting with Humber's Keegan Murphy and ending with him. He led off the inning with a double down the line, barely avoiding the tag at second. A barrage of hits saw the Hawks empty the bases twice without recording an out. With the score 7-0, Murphy stepped up for the second time in the inning and smashed a long solo home-run to put an exclamation point on the inning and game.

Rory Pollard was spectacular, pitching his third straight complete game win, and has now beaten St. Clair, Fanshawe and Durham. He just gave up four hits in his outing. Durham's Alec Brown pitched 4.2 innings and was responsible for all eight Hawk runs.

As mentioned above, Murphy was the hitting star. Andrew Thomson joined him with two hits. Connor May recorded two hits for the Lords.

For his efforts, Rory Pollard was selected as the Hawk Nation Player of the Game.

GAME 2
Humber 6 vs Durham 4

The Hawks had another wonderful pitching performance, this time from freshman Braden Taylor, who gave up a single hit and no runs over his six innings of work.

Game 2 mirrored game 1 in many ways. With the exception of the Lords unable to score with runners in scoring position early, it took an explosive inning by the Hawks in the fifth that was game changing. Legros was rolling along by giving up only a single hit to Humber into the fifth, but Humber utilized a number of key hits and a couple of walks to push six across. The key was loading the bases with none out, and getting back to back hits.

The game seemed out of reach, but the visiting Lords refused to go lightly. After a couple of hits and a couple of walks, and a key fly ball misplayed by the Hawks left fielder that plated three runs, Durham had the tying runs on base in the seventh. A caught-looking strikeout ended the game and completed the sweep for Humber.

Thomson had tow more hits for Humber, and he was joined in the hit parade with Ty Martin's two. Martin and Brendan Lyons each had two RBI's. No Durham player had multiple hits or RBI's.

Taylor was chosen as the Hawk Nation Player of the Game
