GAME TWO WALK-OFF WIN GIVES HAWKS SWEEP OF FANSHAWE ON SUNDAY

ETOBICOKE, ON: For the second consecutive day, the Humber Hawks (9-3, 1^st place) ended game two of doubleheader play with a walk-off victory. On Sunday afternoon at Connorvale Park, it was the Hawks celebrating a 3-2 win, and two-game sweep over London's Fanshawe Falcons (6-6, tie 3^rd ).

After playing its first eight games on the road, home field was a welcome sight for the Etobicoke based squad. With three wins and a single loss over highly ranked teams, the Hawks moved into sole possession of first place.

GAME 1
Humber Hawks 4 vs Fanshawe Falcons 0

Hawk hurler Rory Pollard continued his dominance over OCAA opponents, shutting out Fanshawe on three hits for his second win of the year. His first start was a similar 4-0 road win over the defending champion St. Clair Saints. The Fanshawe pitcher, Noah Campagnolo, was also outstanding as of the four runs he surrendered, only one was earned. Unfortunately for Campagnolo, it was his throwing error that led to a Hawks three-run inning in the fifth.

Ty Martin and Jared Gonsalves had two hits for Humber, with Martin adding an RBI single in the sixth. The Falcons three hits were shared by four players.

Also of note, is that Humber was error free and stole three bases in the game.

For his efforts, Martin was selected as the "Hawk Nation Player of the Game".

GAME 2
Humber Hawks 3 vs Fanshawe Falcons 2

The Hawks had another incredible pitching performance in game two, a complete game, six-hit win from veteran Steven Hough. Hough got roughed up early, surrendering a single run in the first, but then settled in to control the tempo the rest of the way.

Fanshawe contributed to the Hawk scoring for the second game in a row, as the two runs Humber pushed across were via a key Falcons error.

Give the Londoner's full credit, as they not only pitched well by limiting Humber to just those two runs in the third, they battled back in the fourth to tie the game. A leadoff double was followed by a sharp single to knot the game at two. In fact, they had a runner just 90 feet away in the seventh, but a ground ball to first was eaten up by Brendan Lyons.

Cue the walk-off. A screaming single by Hawk star Justin Marra was followed by a bunt by Keegan Murphy. With Marra on second, Hunter Bisser earned a four-pitch walk. Dennis Dei Baning then slapped a ground ball that the Falcon's first baseman snared and started what could have been an inning-ending double play. But, as was their curse in both games, an errant throw went into left field and Marra scampered home with the winning run.

The Hawk bench erupted and Dei Baning was mobbed by his teammates.

Dei Baning was the slugging star, as he had three hits and added to his league leading RBI total with two more. Liam Sutherland and Justin Marra kicked in with two safeties.

As was with the first game, no Falcon had more than one hit. Matt Bowden was tagged with the loss. 

In what was a tough decision, Dei Baning was outvoted by a slim margin for the "Hawk Nation Player of the Game".

Humber will travel to Christie Pits  on Wednesday  for doubleheader action against the George Brown Huskies.
