TECUMSEH, ON: The Humber Hawks men's baseball team (3-1, 1st place) were in a position to sweep the five-time defending champion St. Clair Saints (2-2, 2nd place), but a late rally in the bottom of the seventh of game two forced extra's and ultimately a loss for the visiting Hawks.
GAME 1 – HUMBER HAWKS 4 VS ST. CLAIR SAINTS 0
In the return to Bert Lacasse Park, the same diamond that saw the St. Clair Saints defeat Humber 1-0 to win their fifth straight OCAA title, it was the Hawks who came away with a shutout victory.
Rory Pollard, who toed the bump in the title game last year, was back on the mound for Sunday's affair. He shone yet again, but this time he recorded the win. His six shutout innings was the best outing of his two year career as a member of the Humber Hawks.
Matt Stoddart was called upon in the seventh, and earned the save.
GAME 2 – HUMBER HAWKS VS ST. CLAIR SAINTS
In the second tilt of the day, it was the Hawks who once again took the early lead, as a wild pitch led to a Humber run in the top of the third inning. The hometown Saints responded right away, and scored two runs via two Hawk errors.
Humber did not waste time, as they rallied for two runs the very next inning, and by the seventh inning they led by a score of 5-2.
Things unraveled for the visitors in the bottom of the seventh, as the Saints utilized some key hitting and some lucky breaks as well. A swinging bunt brought St. Clair to within one, and then a sacrifice fly tied the affair, leading to extra innings.
In league play, the international tie breaking procedure is used. With a runner placed on second base, Humber was unable to get the much needed score.
St. Clair was granted the same privilege, and were 90 feet away as they had a man on third with a single out. The Hawks wriggled out of the pickle, forcing the game into the ninth.
Once again, Humber was unable to get one in the run column. But, the Saints did not suffer the same fate, as a single up the middle earned them the walk-off win and the doubleheader split.

Humber will hit the road once again this coming Sunday, as they travel to Oshawa to play the Durham Lords (2-2). Legendary Kinsmen Stadium will be the venue, with games slated for 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
