MARQUEZ NO-NO HIGHLIGHTS HAWKS SWEEP OF HUSKIES

ETOBICOKE, ON: Daniel Marquez got the night off to a flying start by throwing a complete game, no hit, 10-0 shutout of the George Brown Huskies in game one of a doubleheader at Connorvale Park on Wednesday evening. The Hawks completed the sweep by way of a 9-2 win in game two.

With the two victories, the Hawks have now won eleven of their last twelve games and saw their record improve to 12-6 on the season

Game one, a George Brown home game because of a previous rainout, saw Daniel Marquez throw the second no hitter in Hawks history. He only surrendered a single walk, while two other batters reached base, but via Hawk errors. Marquez was masterful, mixing off-speed pitches with a torrid fastball.

Humber ran out to a 7-0 lead after three innings, as they were the recipient of a number of Huskie miscues that came back to haunt them as Hawk runs. The George Brown pitcher threw much better than the score indicated, not allowing the Hawks to make solid contact.

Marquez, by way of his gem, was the Hawk Nation Player of the Game.

In game two, Francis Toribio toed the rubber for the Hawks. He pitched well, but allowed the Huskie to put the lead-off batter on base in almost every inning. After giving up a first inning run, he showed his resilience the rest of the way to secure his first victory.

Humber responded with three runs in the first and second inning, then cruised the rest of the way to close out the sweep.

The highlight of the night was the return of veteran Stephen Andreopoulos. After an injury kept him out of the lineup so far this season, he got a rousing cheer from his teammates when he made a defensive assist in the second inning. He then stepped up to the plate and ripped a single to right field. On the day, he had two hits, a walk and two runs scored.

Joining Andreopoulos on the hit parade with two hits were Liam Sutherland and Kenneth Hahnfeld. On the night, the Hawks banged out 11 hits and had seven freebees, based on five walks and two hit batsmen.

For his efforts, Andreopoulos was selected as the Hawk Nation Player of the Game.

Humber will finish the regular season this coming Saturday, as they travel to Kinsmen Stadium in Oshawa for an afternoon doubleheader.

OF NOTE: Humber has qualified for the 2016 OCAA Men's Baseball Championship Final Four, which is being hosted by Humber at Connorvale Park next weekend. Humber will open the championships with an 11:00 am game on Friday, October 21.
