HAWKS SCORE EARLY AND OFTEN IN 9-1 ROUT OVER SENECA

TORONTO, ON: In what was a very important game, with both teams looking to get the edge over the other in the head-to-head category, it was the visiting Humber Hawks that handled the Seneca Sting by a score of 9-1 on Wednesday night.

The Hawks won the first game of the 4 game series by a score of 9-3, but then dropped the next two and were only able to score one run over fourteen innings of play. With the victory tonight, Humber has split the season series with the Sting, but hold the tiebreaker, which is based on run differential between the two clubs.

Humber start the onslaught early, as they ran out to a 5-0 lead after an inning and a half. They extended their lead to 6-0 by way of a double steal. The steal of home was highlight reel worthy, with the Hawks base runner leaping over the Seneca catcher and then diving to touch home before the tag.

Seneca threatened in the fourth, but left runners on first and third. A strikeout and a groundout ended the threat. The Sting did push one across in the fifth to cut the deficit to five, but that uprising ended shortly thereafter.

It was the sixth where the Hawks tacked on three more runs, but it came with the help of the Seneca hurler, as he fielded a bunted ball with two on but threw it down the first base line. Two Hawks crossed the plate then, and shortly after a third was pushed across via a groundout.

Neither team scored the rest of the way.

Hawk freshman Rory Pollard was outstanding and was credited with the win. He went five innings and surrendered a single hit. With the victory, the Hawks second in a row, their record moves to 3-5 on the season.

Humber will take to the diamond for four home games this coming weekend, as the Fanshawe Falcons arrive for two on Saturday and the league leading St. Clair Saints on Sunday. Both doubleheaders will start at 1:00 pm, and will take place at Connorvale Park in Etobicoke.
