HAWKS LOSE NO-HITTER IN SEVENTH; GAME SUSPENDED

SCARBOROUGH, ON: After playing seven complete innings, the Humber Hawks and George Brown Huskies season opener finished with the score tied 1-1.  Due to new OCAA baseball league rules, the game cannot finish in a tie and has officially been suspended until these two teams play again on September 26.

The game started with two hard throwing lefties on the mound, with Daniel Cirillo (Brampton) pitching for Humber and Andrew Murrell for George Brown.

In a tight pitcher's duel, Humber was able to score the first run after Matt Stoddart (Mississauga) led off the third inning with a walk and came around to score on an error by the shortstop.

In his first official OCAA start, freshman Daniel Cirillo began his career in perfect fashion.  The tough lefty cruised through the first six innings of the game, striking out 10 Huskies without surrendering a hit.

In the seventh inning and three outs away from the second no-hitter in Humber history, Cirillo gave up a leadoff single to shallow right off the bat of Andrew Murell, the 2014 OCAA batting champion.  A few plays later, Murrell stole home on a throw back to the pitcher to tie the game.  Cirillo proceeded to strikeout the final batter and force extra innings rescheduled for later this month.

Cirillo's final pitching line was seven innings, 11 strikeouts, one hit, and one unearned run.

Third-year infielder Keegan Murphy (Brampton) paced the way for the Hawks offensively after collecting two hits and a stolen base.

Humber will now look to put together a better offensive performance Sunday afternoon when they host the Seneca Sting for their season opener.  Both games will be live streamed online and can be found by clicking here.
