ARMS RACE CONTINUES FOR HUMBER BASEBALL

ETOBICOKE, ON:  After boasting the second best pitching staff in the OCAA last season, the Hawks baseball program continues to add arms to their bullpen in hopes of winning consecutive provincial medals.  Last week assistant coach Matthew Ferreira announced the signing of Tyler Greenwood, the fifth pitcher signed by the Hawks this offseason.

Greenwood, a five-foot-nine right handed pitcher from Mississauga, joins the Hawks after spending a season pitching in the NJCAA for the Globe Knights in New York City.  As a freshman, he finished second on the team with an incredible 12.12 strikeouts per nine innings pitched.

"Tyler is a key signing for our pitching staff," said Coach Ferreira.  "His JUCO [Junior College] experience and familiarity with our coaching staff should make for a smooth transition.  He also provides some additional positional versatility as he's played the middle infield, while seeing some time behind the plate as recent as his 18U year.  We are looking at Tyler to be a big part of this team for the next four years."

As a former Etobicoke Ranger, Greenwood is no stranger to Humber baseball.  With the Rangers, he played alongside Brandon Costa, Brendan Lyons and Kenneth Hahnfield; all who played for the Hawks last season.  At Clarkson Secondary School, Greenwood was also teammates with second-year catcher Blake Kauer.

"I wanted to start my Canadian education," said Greenwood, when asked why he chose Humber College.  "I have many friends who attend Humber and have had good things to say about their programs as well as their faculty, so I decided that it would be a good fit for me."

Greenwood will be enrolled in the Journalism program, an advanced diploma offered at Humber College.

"I chose Journalism because I love to write and aspire to be an author or a sports journalist," added Greenwood.

Greenwood joins the talented Humber baseball recruiting class of 2016, featuring Max Elofson (Minneapolis), Chase Cornelisse (Barrie), Daniel Cirilo (Brampton) Aaron Arbic-Cohen (Georgetown), Dylan Perego (Waterdown), Hunter Bisser (Toronto), Rory Pollard (Orangeville), Daniel Marquez (Cambridge), and Liam Sutherland (Ottawa).  The Hawks will begin summer camp August 22-24 in preparation for the upcoming 2016 OCAA baseball season.
