CHASE CORNELISSE COMMITS TO HUMBER BASEBALL FOR UPCOMING SEASON

ETOBICOKE, ON:  The Humber Hawks men's baseball team continues to add depth to their program after assistant coach Matthew Ferreira announced the recent signing of outfielder Chase Cornelisse.  The six-foot-two speedster from Barrie committed to the Hawks last week and will be looked upon to help Humber in their pursuit of an OCAA championship.

"Chase has the ability to play all three outfield positions above average but is a true centre fielder," said Coach Ferreira.  "He has physical tools that have advanced him into becoming a very good ballplayer.  He's yet another example of an extremely talented athlete choosing Humber College directly out of high school."

After wrapping up his career at Innisdale Secondary School, Cornelisse will spend the summer playing in the Elite Baseball League (EBL) of Ontario with the 18U Brampton Royals.  Hawks head coach Denny Berni currently coaches in the EBL as well and will have to face Cornelisse in an August 9th game before becoming his varsity head coach.  The Royals also feature new recruits Cirilo (Brampton) and Arbic-Cohen (Georgetown), who will be joining the Hawks for the upcoming season.

Cornelisse has enrolled in the three-year massage therapy program at Humber College.

"I chose Humber College because of their great atmosphere and reputation," said Cornelisse.  "I want to help people get back to the state they feel the best in and that's why I enrolled in massage therapy."

With no elite baseball options available in his hometown, Cornelisse routinely makes the trip from Barrie to Brampton for practices and games, demonstrating his passion for baseball and his potential to become a great team leader on and off the diamond.

"I am going to play as hard as I can while I am on the field, representing the program to the best of my ability," added Cornelisse.  "Off the field, I want to maintain my high GPA while staying humble and well-mannered as possible."

As the eighth recruit announced thus far from Coach Ferreira, Cornelisse, Cirilo and Arbic-Cohen will join Dylan Perego (Waterdown), Hunter Bisser (Toronto), Rory Pollard (Orangeville), Daniel Marquez (Cambridge), and Liam Sutherland (Ottawa) at Hawks summer camp August 22-24 in preparation of the 2016 baseball season.
