FORMER BROCK STANDOUT DYLAN PEREGO JOINS HAWKS

ETOBICOKE, ON: Looking to build beyond the success of a 2015 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Bronze medal, the Humber Hawks men's baseball team continues their offseason trend of stocking up on high-caliber arms.  The Hawks and assistant coach Matthew Ferreira are pleased to announce the signing of pitcher Dylan Perego.

A native of Waterdown, On., the side-arm right-hander was originally recruited to pitch for the University of Rio Grande in the Mid-South Conference of the NAIA.  As a freshman, Perego appeared in 13 games for the RedStorm, finishing with a 1-0 record and a 3.04 earned run average (ERA), third best on the team and was named an NAIA Academic All-American.

After leaving Rio, Perego joined the Brock Badgers and helped lead the team to an OUA best 30-3 overall record.  That season he finished with a 3-0 record and a microscopic ERA of 0.38.  In the OUA Championship semi-finals, Perego defeated Waterloo after tossing a complete game of one-run ball to earn the victory.  In his two seasons with Brock, he won one OUA Championship and was named Top Pitcher both seasons.

"Dylan comes to Humber with a wealth of experience having anchored the pitching staff of a strong Brock team over the last few years," said Coach Ferreria.  "He is familiar with some of the top lineups in the OCAA from the OUA/OCAA crossover games.  He will be leaned upon to be a front-line starter and leader amongst our pitching staff."

Perego will be enrolling in the Journalism (Postgraduate) program at Humber College while continuing his stellar post-secondary baseball career.

"I chose Humber College because I wanted to take a graduate program targeted at my desired career field and to win an OCAA Baseball Championship," said Perego.  "I enrolled in the Journalism program because my career goals are to work in sports reporting and sports broadcasting. I feel that the experience the program offers will put me in the best possible situation to accomplish that goal."

After dominating at every level he has competed, Perego wants to continue the trend as a Humber Hawk.

"My personal goals are to statistically be one of the most dominant pitchers in the OCAA and to help the team win their first OCAA Championship as much as I can," added Perego.  "Off the field, my goals are to learn as much about journalism as I can, succeed in my internship placement and earn full-time employment upon graduation."

Over the past three summers, Perego pitched for the Burlington Bandits of the Intercounty League, where he competed against one of Humber's newest recruits Daniel Marquez.  Now Marquez and Perego will be teaming up for the Hawks, as Coach Ferreira predicts they will both anchor the pitching staff.

This summer Perego will pitch for the Niagara Metros of the COBA league, where he has already appeared in three games, allowing only two earned runs in 12.1 innings.

Dylan Perego is the seventh recruit announced by Coach Ferreira this season, joining Hunter Bisser (Toronto), Rory Pollard (Orangeville), Daniel Marquez (Cambridge), Liam Sutherland (Ottawa), Aaron Arbic-Cohen (Georgetown) and Daniel Cirillo (Brampton).  Perego and the rest of the Hawks will begin summer camp August 22-24 in preparation of the 2016 baseball season.
