HAWKS CONTINUE TO BOLSTER PITCHING STAFF

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks men's baseball program continues to stock up on pitching this offseason with the recent addition of Rory Pollard.  Assistant coach Matthew Ferreira announced Friday afternoon that the six-foot-four pitcher from Orangeville will be joining the Hawks for the upcoming 2016 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) baseball season.

"Rory will fit into our pitching staff very nicely," said Coach Ferreira.  "Had he wanted to, he would be pitching south of the border this fall; however he chose our baseball program and Humber College as he felt it was the right fit for him both athletically and academically.  Our coaching staff is pleased to see another player of this caliber choose Humber College right out of high school."

A product of the Etobicoke Rangers 18U team, the Humber coaching staff is very familiar with Pollard.  Hawks head coach Denny Berni has spent over 20 years with the Rangers organization and is the owner of Pro Teach Baseball where Pollard works and trains.  He will also be reuniting with old teammates Kenneth Hahnfield and Dillon McKane.

"There are many reasons why I selected Humber College," said Pollard.  "I wanted to attend a good academic institute while still being able to play baseball at a competitive level.  It also allows me to stay close to my friends and family, something that was really important to me."

Pollard has enrolled in the Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Technician program at Humber, a two-year diploma that he intends to take just as seriously as baseball.

"I want to learn new skills that will be useful during life events while receiving a top-quality education," added Pollard.

Rory Pollard is the fifth recruit announced by Coach Ferreira this season, joining Daniel Marquez (Cambridge), Liam Sutherland (Ottawa), Aaron Arbic-Cohen (Georgetown) and Daniel Cirillo (Brampton.  Pollard and the rest of the Hawks will begin summer camp August 22-24 in preparation of the 2016 baseball season.
