HAWKS SIGN FORMER NATIONAL TEAM PLAYER DANIEL MARQUEZ

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks men's baseball program is excited to announce the signing of former Junior National team pitcher Daniel Marquez.  A native of Cambridge, Marquez will be joining the Hawks after spending time with the University of Evansville in Indiana.

"Daniel comes to us with a tremendous pedigree, having pitched for the Canadian Junior National Program and at the NCAA D1 level," said assistant coach Matthew Ferreira.  "We are looking for him to make an immediate impact and be a key piece to our rotation."

Marquez currently plays for the Guelph Royals of the Intercounty Baseball League and will be a vital addition, as the Hawks search for their third Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) medal in four seasons.

"I want to help the team win an OCAA championship and further my ambitions of becoming a professional baseball player," responded Marquez when asked why he chose Humber College.  "This program and coaching staff put their athletes in the best possible situations to succeed on and off the field and I wanted to be a part of that."

After playing for the Ontario Nationals baseball club, Marquez was selected for Canada's Junior National team and competed against the top young talent in the world.

"Playing for Team Canada is definitely the athletic accomplishment I am most proud of," added Marquez, who is currently enrolled in the general arts and science program.

No stranger to Hawks baseball, Marquez will be reunited with battery-mate Blake Kauer (Mississauga).

"Prior to joining Team Canada, Kauer and I played together on Ontario Nationals baseball club."

Marquez is the fourth recruit announced by Coach Ferreira this season, joining Liam Sutherland (Ottawa), Aaron Arbic-Cohen (Georgetown) and Daniel Cirillo (Brampton), all who compete in Midget Elite League.  Marquez and the rest of the Hawks will begin summer camp August 22-24 in preparation of the 2016 baseball season.
