HAWKS ADD MISSISSAUGA NORTH TIGER LIAM SUTHERLAND

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks added right-handed hitter Liam Sutherland to the class of signees joining the squad for the 2016 season, assistant coach Matt Ferreira announced on Tuesday.  Sutherland is an outfielder from St. Aloysius Gonzaga Secondary School in Mississauga.

"Liam is another quality high school athlete that we have been able to recruit," said Coach Ferreira.  "He brings a dimension of speed that we will look to utilize.  We expect him to come in, compete for a starting job in the outfield and have a productive career as a Humber Hawk."

The six-foot-three Sutherland currently plays for the Mississauga North Tigers of the Baseball Ontario Midget Elite League, where the Tigers are fresh off an 'AAA' provincial championship.

"Humber College offers the best program for what I will be taking," said Sutherland when asked why he chose Humber.  "The baseball team is very talented and primed to win a championship with the leadership from highly knowledgeable coaches."

Sutherland will be enrolling in the Sport Management advanced diploma, a three-year program offered at Humber.

"I chose the sport management program simply based on sports is my life," added the Ottawa native who now resides in Mississauga.  "I want to pursue a career in the business of sport from a marketing perspective and Humber offers the right program to help get me there."

While winning provincial championships, Sutherland has amassed nine academic awards along the way, demonstrating his ability to balance academics with athletics.

"On the field, my personal goal is to hit .330 and have an on-base percentage over .500," continued Sutherland.  "Off the field, I want to be an honour student all three academic years."

Sutherland is the third recruit announced by Coach Ferreira this season, joining Aaron Arbic-Cohen (Georgetown) and Daniel Cirillo (Brampton), all who compete in MEL.  Sutherland and the rest of the Hawks will begin summer camp August 22-24 in preparation of the 2016 baseball season.
